Turkish clothing exports surged 28% year-on-year in May

Turkish clothing exports surged 28% year-on-year in May

According to data from the Turkish Ministry of Trade, Turkey's apparel exports totaled US$7.921 billion from January to May 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 1.12%. Among them, the total export volume of knitted clothing was US$4.257 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3.8%, and the total export volume of woven clothing was US$3.664 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.1%.
 
Although Turkey's total clothing exports declined from January to May 2023, clothing exports in May increased significantly by 27.63% year-on-year, reaching US$1.575 billion. Among them, the export value of knitted clothing was US$853 million, a year-on-year increase of 24.6%, and the export value of woven clothing was US$720 million, a year-on-year increase of 31.4%. Europe has always been Turkey's largest market. Turkey's exports to the Middle East have also grown rapidly this year. Coupled with the production recovery of domestic industries and the gradual stabilization of the economy, clothing exports achieved good results in May.
