The mechanism of textile tearing

Tear strength is one of the important test items for textile testing. The drop hammer fabric tearing tester is the testing instrument. Standard Group (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. is the manufacturer. Customers in need are welcome to inquire. In addition, the R&D engineer of Standard Group said that the tearing method is different, and the tearing mechanism is also different. The following briefly explains the tearing mechanism of various tearing methods, and I hope it will be helpful to every customer.
 
A: Pendulum method tearing strength
 
As shown in the figure below, the two sides marked with P are the parts where the sample is clamped by the sample holder; when the weight drops instantaneously, the sample will break from the first yarn in the tearing triangle area until the entire sample is torn.
 
Then, a triangular area is formed between the first broken longitudinal yarn and the two sets of transverse yarns that are sheared. This area is called the tearing triangle area.
 
B: Pants type method tearing strength
 
The tearing force principle of the trousers method is the same as that of the pendulum method. The difference between the two is that the tearing speed is different; the pendulum is a fast tearing, while the single tongue is a slower and uniform tearing.
 
C: Trapezoidal method tear

As can be seen from the above two figures, the trapezoid method is completely different from the pendulum and single tongue; if the pendulum method is to tear a single yarn in battle, then the single tongue method is at least two or several yarns. In battle, the trapezoid method is a group of yarns in the battle, pounce forward and follow until the sample is completely broken. From the picture of the tearing mechanism, we can see that the trapezoidal method tears from the first red threaded yarn to the nth unstraightened end. This group of yarns are all resisting the tensile force from the vertical direction; so Trapezoidal tearing is not so much tearing, it is not that the tensile strength of part of the yarn is more appropriate.
 
D: Tear by wing method
 
The tearing strength of the wing method is basically the same as the principle of the trapezoidal method, except that the angle is different; the different angle means that the number of yarns participating in the resistance to the tension is different, so the trapezoid method and the wing method are not the same type of test. The results cannot be compared with each other.
 
Comparison of the results of various types of tearing (only plain weave cotton as an example, because the fabrics of other organizational structures are affected by the particularity of the organizational structure, and the tearing situation is more complicated. (There is a general understanding of the type of data)
