What is smoothness? How does it affect paper?

1. What is smoothness?

1. Smoothness is an index to evaluate the characteristics of the surface of paper or cardboard. It is very important for printing paper, and it affects the uniform transfer of printing ink.

2. The smoothness of paper or cardboard is affected by factors such as fiber shape, pulp beating degree, weaving method of papermaking net and felt, wet pressing pressure, and whether there is calendering, filling and coating. For paper with poor smoothness, there may be false dot printing and blurred dots after printing.

3. Smoothness refers to the time required for air to pass through the gap between the pressured sample surface and the glass surface under a certain degree of vacuum. The longer the time, the better the smoothness of the paper. If the paper is not handled properly, the surface of the paper will be rough and uneven. Using this kind of paper for offset printing will make the handwriting broken, the dots will be empty, and the layers will be reduced. At the same time, the rough paper absorbs a lot of ink, resulting in a dull imprint.

2. Effect of smoothness on paper:

1. Many of the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of paper are determined by papermaking. When these different papers are used in offset printing, remedial measures can be taken. For example, the smoothness of the paper is not good, and it is difficult for the printing workers to change the smoothness of the paper.

2. When using paper with poor smoothness, you can appropriately increase the printing pressure, increase the fluidity of the ink, and use ink with strong wettability to make up for the emptiness of the imprint due to uneven paper. It is difficult for printers to change the smoothness of the paper. However, measures can be taken in terms of process operation and ink to adapt to it.

3. When using paper with poor smoothness, you can appropriately increase the printing pressure, increase the fluidity of the ink, and use ink with strong wettability to compensate for the emptiness of the imprint due to uneven paper.

QS-A821 smoothness meter is used for testing high-smooth paper and cardboard, and is an ideal testing equipment for papermaking, packaging, printing, commodity inspection, scientific research and other departments. Please leave a message for details.
