The car waterproofing test refers to the flow of water from the outside of the vehicle body through the fitting gap of the vehicle body into the interior. Vehicle manufacturers use artificial simulated rainfall environments to achieve rain sealing performance tests. Currently, domestically produced cars generally adopt GB/T12480-1990 Test Methods for Rainproof Sealing of Passenger Cars and QC/T476-1999 Limits for Rainproof Sealing of Passenger Cars. After integration and revision, the standard is QC/T476-2007 Limits and Test Methods for Rainproof Sealing of Passenger Cars.

According to the requirements of GB/T12480-1990, the rainfall intensity in the rain test room is 4-10mm/min, and the spray pressure of the nozzle is 69-147kPa; The soaking time is 15 minutes. In the actual operation process, in order to strengthen the inspection of the rain sealing performance of the entire vehicle, the vehicle factory often increases the rain intensity by increasing the density of the nozzle, increasing the spray pressure, and other methods. The rain intensity in the rain test room will be several times higher than the recommended value, and some manufacturers may even exceed 100mm/min, and the spray pressure of the nozzle will also reach over 200kPa, allowing the spray to atomize and spray onto the vehicle body.

At different stages of vehicle production, the testing requirements of vehicle manufacturers vary. During the trial production period of the vehicle, due to the fact that the production process and equipment parameters of the entire vehicle are all in the testing period, it is necessary to conduct a long-term rain test (between 4-8 hours) on the vehicle to identify potential areas of water leakage, and then analyze the causes of water leakage and improve the design or process. During the mass production of the vehicle, the design and process defects are basically improved, and the rain mainly involves routine inspections, To prevent sealing defects caused by occasional non-compliance.
