British clothing imports fell sharply in the first quarter
 
In the first quarter of this year, British clothing imports fell sharply, with import volume down 18.2% year-on-year and import value down 10.3% in US dollars. Imports from China and Turkey fell by 31% and 24% respectively, and imports from Bangladesh fell by 8.7%. , imports to India only increased by 0.7%, and imports to Sri Lanka fell by 45%, mainly affected by the sharp rebound in the exchange rate of the country's currency, the rupee.
 
In the first quarter, Bangladesh became the largest source of British clothing imports in terms of volume, and almost surpassed China in terms of value. Other import sources accounted for less than 10%, with India accounting for 8.7%, Turkey accounting for 6.3%, Pakistan accounting for 3.5%, and Sri Lanka accounting for 2.7%.
 
In the first quarter, the unit price of British clothing imports rose sharply, with the average price rising by 13.1% in US dollars. The unit price in Turkey rose by 22.5%, and the price in China rose by 13.7%. In the same period a year ago, it rose by 21.6%. Compared with the first quarter of 2019, the unit price of clothing imports in China increased by 31% and in Bangladesh by 20%.
