The secret of artificial weathering test

The artificial climate aging test is an artificial accelerated aging test method that simultaneously simulates factors such as light, oxygen, heat, humidity and rainfall in the atmospheric environment in a test box. Among these simulation factors, the light source is the most important. Studies have shown that the wavelengths that cause damage to polymer materials in sunlight are mainly concentrated in ultraviolet and part of visible light. The artificial light sources currently used try to make the energy spectrum distribution in this wavelength range close to the solar spectrum.

 

Three kinds of artificial light sources currently in use: xenon arc light source, fluorescent ultraviolet light source, open carbon arc light source

 

1. Xenon arc lamp aging test:

 

Light source, providing spectral radiation above 300nm, and controllable spectral energy distribution from 300 to 800nm

 

Radiometer, monitor the radiation energy of the test chamber

 

Humidity control device to monitor the relative humidity of the air in the test chamber

 

Water spray system, intermittently spray the surface of the sample to simulate rainfall

 

Blackboard or black mark temperature, monitor the temperature of the test chamber

 

2. Fluorescent UV lamp aging test:

 

Light source, providing 250~400nm spectrum

 

Radiometer, monitor the radiation energy of the test chamber

 

Humidity control device to monitor the relative humidity of the air in the test chamber

 

Water spray system, intermittently spray the surface of the sample to simulate rainfall

 

Blackboard or black mark temperature, monitor the temperature of the test chamber

 

3. Open carbon arc lamp aging test:

 

The spectral energy distribution is relatively close to sunlight, but the simulation is not as good as the xenon arc lamp, and it is less used in China and widely used in Japan.
