The Martindale Abrasion Tester is based on the J.G. Martindale design principle and is manufactured to meet the specifications of the Wool Industry Research Association. It uses a standard wool felt as an abrasive to abrade the object to be tested, e.g. cloth, but can be changed from a standard wool felt to other materials such as sandpaper, depending on the test method and requirements, to test the abrasion resistance or discolouration of leather. The test object is clamped onto a cylinder and a standard weight (depending on the test method) is pressed against the abrasive object, driven by vertical and horizontal eccentric wheels to produce a Lissajous curve, with the aim of completing a multi-directional abrasion test. For general footwear materials, the abrasion effect is tested in both the dry and wet methods to simulate the effect of rain on the upper material or sweat on the lining of the shoe.

The 10 steps of the Martindale Abrasion Tester:

1. The sample is parked in the laboratory environment for more than 8 hours.
2. Cut a sample from the flat part of the sample. If it is an insole, it should be cut to the transfer printing part.
3. Remove the load and load shaft from the testing machine.
4. Remove the top plate and test fixture.
5. Sample device: loosen the fixing ring on the test fixture, take out the sample pressing piece, put the sample into the test fixture base, place a sample gasket between the sample and the test fixture base, and then Place the specimen press on the specimen spacer and secure it with a retaining ring.
6. The device of wool felt and friction cloth: loosen the fixing screw and the fixing ring, put the wool felt on the base and spread the friction cloth, press a 2.5kg pressure plate in the middle of the friction cloth, replace the fixing ring and Tighten the setscrews.
7. Reinstall the top plate, pass the load shaft (12KPa) through the round hole on the top plate.
8. Place the test fixture with the sample facing down on the base fixture, adjust the circular groove of the test fixture to align with the load shaft, and insert the load shaft into the circular groove of the test fixture.
9. Set the number of times according to the standard, start the switch, and start the test.
10. After reaching the set number of times, it will stop automatically, and take down the sample to determine the result.

What are the points to note when operating the Martindale Abrasion Tester?

1. Abrasion cloths cannot be used repeatedly and need to be replaced every 50,000 rubs;
2. The wool felt can be used repeatedly until the surface is worn or stained before replacement;
3. The insole should be de-clothed first and then tested for Martindale abrasion resistance;
4、When using the Martindale Abrasion Tester, it must be connected to a power supply that matches its rated power to avoid damage to the Martindale Abrasion Tester during use.
5. When grounding the housing, it should be kept in a good grounding condition and its grounding resistance should be less than one ohm.
6、Remember that during installation or operation, there should not be any collision to avoid damage to the machine and thus affect the results of the experiment.
7, because the Martindale Abrasion Tester is a touch screen, so when operating, remember to use only your fingers to operate, do not use some hard objects to press, so as not to cause damage to it.
8、After each work experiment, be sure to clean it.
